Oh, you like Shakespeare? Name three of his Quartos…that’s what I thought.
These past two weeks have been a complete doozy. Between the four (yes, you read me right) plays we read, the three we saw, and the many tiresome but rewarding excursions, you’d think we’d been here for four weeks rather than two. Mostly, I want to mention to anyone reading that
YES, YOU’RE SNOB FRIEND THAT SAYS THE THEATER IS MEANT TO BE SEEN IS RIGHT. They are RIGHT.
We got the opportunity to see a double header at Shakespeare’s Globe theater of As You Like It and Hamlet. While I will say the As You Like It was not really my cup of tea, I much appreciated how different reading the play was to seeing it. But the pièce de résistance was Hamlet. Hamlet rocked my ish, I was left a sobbing mess at its conclusion; it truly was the most immersive experience I have been part of. Not only was the theater itself a wonderful piece of history, but the actors really electrified the room; I’ll never take for granted the artistry that performance takes again (not like I did before, but I’m trying to make a point here). Also seeing the reactions of my friends and teachers (looking at you, Aparna)to the plays was something I’ll hold close for awhile; watching people enjoy themselves is very rewarding. Above all, the state of my union is that I have been left in awe once again, only this time by the majesty that is the theater.
P.S If any of your theater nerd friends say it’s better being a groundling, don’t argue with them, they are right and you are wrong.
